What a market order means in crypto.

A market order trades price control for immediate execution.

Updated Mar 2026

Definition

A market order is an instruction to execute immediately at the best available price.

In crypto, traders use it when getting filled now matters more than waiting for a specific price.

In practice

Market orders are useful for momentum entries, urgent exits, or situations where missing the move is a bigger problem than slight slippage.

The tradeoff is weaker price control. In fast markets the fill may slip, so the order should be used deliberately.
